Covergirl Lisa

So, Attitude Clothing magazine let me come and wear lots of their clothes for the new Winter catalogue a little while back. I had a great time and pretty much wanted to take everything home with me...

...but imagine my surprise when I logged into Facebook this evening to find that they had decided to use one of my photos on the cover!?!?!? Mental.

The photographer was a guy called Al Overdrive. He was awesome and managed to put up with the fact that I didn't have a clue what I was doing for the whole day.

So yeah, there are gonna be a tonne more pictures of my face in the magazine - which will be available from www.attitudeclothing.co.uk in a couple of weeks time.

Persephone Minerals Sample Swatches

I got two very exciting packages in the post today.

The first was my sample order from Persephone Minerals. I have been wanting to try some stuff from this etsy based store for a while and when they had a 20% off code on their facebook page I decided that the time had finally come to place an order.

I ordered:

Taupeless Beach
Moon Prism Power
Kore
Kalifa
Spirit Realm

and recieved Pumpkin Head and Cemetery Dirt as freebies :)

In all of the swatches below, the top row is with no base and the bottom row is over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy.

L - R: Taupeless Beach, Kore, Moon Prism Power, Kalifa, Spirit Realm, Pumpkin Head, Cemetery Dirt. (WITH FLASH)

L - R: Taupeless Beach, Kore, Moon Prism Power, Kalifa, Spirit Realm, Pumpkin Head, Cemetery Dirt. (WITHOUT FLASH)

L - R: Taupeless Beach, Kore, Moon Prism Power, Kalifa

L - R: Kalifa, Spirit Realm, Pumpkin Head, Cemetery Dirt.

Some of these were impossible to photograph because of the duochromeyness (<-- 100% a word!)

These shadows are lovely even without a base, but the pixie epoxy makes a HUGE difference. The sparkles in these are beautiful and SO much more noticeable over PE.

Taupeless Beach, Kalifa and Moon Prism Power are my favourites from these. I can see myself getting a lot of use with these ones in particular!

This order cost me $6.50 inc shipping which I thought was extremely reasonable. I will definitely be buying from Persephone Minerals again!

Illamasqua Skin Base Review

I am a bit late with this review but I wanted to give it a fair wearing time before reviewing it, as I think that skin takes a while to adapt to new products.

It took me ages to actually get hold of this. I didn't want to just shade guess from the colour swatches online because this stuff is pretty expensive, so I waited until we were in Glasgow on tour this summer and went to the illamasqua counter in debenhams.

To my dismay, they didn't have the shade that I wanted to try in stock - but the tester was still there so the nice SA colour matched me, and sent me off with a sample in a little jar to keep me going until I could order one online.

The sample she gave me was about the size of two little peas. I was a little sceptical at first because she had said that she would give me enough for a week (not that I was complaining at all, it was lovely of her to give me a sample at all - I just didn't believe that this amount would last me for a whole week!)

It was close, 6 days the pot managed! Considering the amount she gave me would last me about 2 days in any other foundation I was very impressed! You barely have to use any of this stuff to get the kind of coverage that I was wanting for stage wear!

The packaging is lovely (as always with illamasqua products!)

The shade I was matched to was shade 06. It is about as close to my skin tone as I could ever hope to get really.  If I'm being really pedantic it could do with being a tiny bit less pink toned but once it is on my face I can't really tell the difference.

This stuff doesn't feel like foundation - it really does just feel like bare skin! For everyday wear I set it with a light translucent powder (I'm using up my Lily Lolo Flawless Matte at the moment but my Fyrinnae one works just as well) and for stage I set it with MACs mineralize skinfinish natural in Light/Medium.

Here are some pictures of my face:

none of these photos are edited at all. Baring in mind the fact that my skin is dry, acne prone (to the point where I am actually taking medication for it) and I am using no concealer at all in these photos....I'd say that this stuff is doing a damn good job!

I apply this foundation with my ELF studio blush brush. I like this brush for applying foundation cause it is small enough to do under my eyes without ruining my eye makeup (which I always do before my foundation!)

It is expensive. £25 a tube (30ml) but I seriously think it is worth it. I use far less of this foundation than I would with any other brand too so technically you are getting way more product use for the money
The cute headband I'm wearing in these photos is from Claires Accessories :) I think I'm going to wear it all winter, it is so warm and lovely!

EDIT: I thought I should include a picture to show how well this stuff holds up on stage too :)

This was at the end of an extremely warm hour long set.... my skin still looks like skin! Its shiny yeah but that was to be expected - I don't think I look a total mess though (like I normally do haha!)

Kate Moss for Rimmel (Shade 03)

I have been looking for a dupe for my everyday lipstick (MAC - The Faerie Glen) for a while now. TFG was released as part of one of the Christmas collections last year and was a LE product. I wear this lipstick more than any other one that I own and am now about halfway down my second  tube :(

A couple of days ago I started to hear on twitter about the new Kate Moss for Rimmel collection of lipsticks. People seemed quite impressed by it, and having never tried a Rimmel lipstick before I was quite eager to try them out.

I was even more eager to do so when I saw that shade 03 was a potential dupe for my beloved The Faerie Glen!!!

I had a look in my (useless) local boots store and they didn't have them in stock, but luckily I was waiting for an hour in Liverpool Street station yesterday on my way to do a photoshoot for Attitude Clothings winter catalogue - and I managed to pick one up there!

This lipstick is the closest match I have ever found for TFG! I have pictured it below with Viva Glam Gaga II (which is the second closest match that I have, although it gives me concealer lips a bit.)

See for yourselves:

Shade 03 Kate Moss for Rimmel

Sorry for the rubbish lip swatch. I really am not good at these, need to practice!

This lipstick is fantastic. I would go as far as to say that the staying power is actually better than the MAC one (the faerie glen is a lustre, where I would say that the Rimmel one is closer to a creemsheen finish if I had to categorise it.)

They are currently on 3 for 2 in Boots (which is mix and match across all cosmetics) and retail at £5.49 which is a steal compared to the £13.50 you would pay for a MAC lipstick at the moment.

Inglot in the UK

There is FINALLY a UK site for the cosmetic brand Inglot.

I have a few things from them which I managed to get from a blogger in Australia and it is really good quality stuff. I have been wanting to get hold of a few more of their gel liners for a while now so it is awesome to know that us Brits can now buy stuff online :)

MUA Palettes

FINALLY!

I have been waiting to try these out since the beginning of August. I went on tour all over the UK and went into about 15 different Superdrug stores, only to find that none of them had these in stock yet.

As luck would have it, my mum and sisters managed to pick these three up for me when they saw them in Superdrug Tunbridge Wells. However, I don't see much of them at the moment because we are all so busy so it has taken until today for me to get hold of them.

I have now got Heaven & Earth, Dusk Til Dawn and Starry Night. They are all beautiful, I have been impressed with MUA eyeshadows from the very start but these colours seem to have a lot more depth than the single shadow pans. Especially some of the neutrals from the Heaven & Earth Palette! There is a bronze/gold colour in the tio right hand corner which is just beautiful when swatched!

I haven't had much of a chance to play with them yet but I wanted to get some photographs before they get used.

From Top Left: Heaven & Earth, Starry Night, Dusk Til Dawn

Heaven & Earth

Dusk Til Dawn

Starry Night

These palettes are extremely affordable at £4 each! Each eye shadow pan is slightly larger than a penny and with 12 eye shadows in each palette that works out at about 33p per shadow.

The extra bonus with this brand is that MUA is a Superdrug own product - and therefore you can get 25% off the price of these if you fill in one of the online questionnaires that are given to you with each superdrug receipt. That takes the price of each palette down to £3!! (or 25p per eye shadow!)

I have heard nothing but praise for these, and my initial impressions are very high. I will do some reviews and looks with these over the next few weeks :)

Haus Of Gloi = Love

So I'm at home for the day before heading out for another 10 days of tour. I got to pick up my post, and was very excited to see that my second order from Haus Of Gloi had arrived!

My first order from Haus Of Gloi was for 'The Briar Path' Bubbling Scrub (from the Summer collection). Before this I was using a strawberry body scrub from boots but I hated that the smell was completely gone after about 10 minutes of leaving the shower.

This stuff is the complete opposite. It leaves a really subtle scent on your skin for hours! The website description of this product was:

"Sun drenched trail leading to a day dream of ripe berries and woods’ rose, rich forest loam, ozone, dark amber and cream. "
Honestly....I didn't really know what that meant. I am terrible with scents, I can only recognise really obnoxiously obvious ones. I sort of chose it on a whim.

To me though, this product is a strange hybrid of flowery and fruity. Sometimes I think it leans more one way than the other, and then the next day I will completely change my mind. It is really lovely though! I wish I had grabbed the Pumpkin Butter version before it got discontinued to be honest.

I ordered a mini version of the scrub which cost me $3.50 (which is about £2.10). A little goes a long way with this stuff and the mini tub has lasted me a long time. It is still about a third of the way full! I ordered this on the 10th of June and it was here a week later. Extremely fast overseas shipping!

Included with my order was a mini vial of 'White Raspberry' perfume oil. The websites description of this being:

"Tart Raspberry and a clean cream accord. "

I am not a perfume girl. In my whole life I have used about three (and one of those is the Boots natural collection vanilla body spray!) So I was really surprised with how much I liked this! It is really fruity, almost childish (as in, it reminds me of the smell of sweet shops!) I found myself using this everyday for two weeks, and then it was all gone (BOOOOOO!)

So, I decided to order a big version of it. Which came in my order that I picked up today :)

The bottle was $12 (about £7.25) which I think is actually fairly expensive considering the size of the bottle, and comparing it to my other perfume love in life, Paco Rabanne Black XS.

You get 5ml in the haus of gloi perfume vials for £7.25 (which works out at £1.45 per ml) or 50ml in the Paco Rabanne bottle for £35.50 (which works out at 71p per ml).

Obviously I can understand that Haus Of Gloi isn't a major company and doesn't have the same kind of budgets, and the scent it really very nice.....so I can let that one slide :)

I do almost wish they did bigger bottles with spray tops just for ease of use. I find the bottle it comes in a little fiddly to use.

Also in my order was 'Honey Tree' bubbling scrub which is described as:

Quite rich! Right from the bee hive - honey amplified by seductive essence of resinous vanilla, darkened by a passing waft of mild rare wood smoke.

This description makes it sound way more sickly than it actually is. I love the smell of vanilla and I am a bit of a honey fan too so I thought I'd give this a shot seeing as I was already placing an order.

I haven't used this yet but my "in the pot" impression is a good one :) I can't smell any smoke in it, which is a good thing because I don't really like smokey scents. Just honey and vanilla, which is what I wanted.

This cost the same as the mini version of 'The Briar Path', $3.50 (about £2.10). I think that these mini versions are extremely good value. I would have ordered a full sized version of TBP had it not been discontinued.

With this order I got a free mini vial of 'Pumpkin Queen' perfume oil, from the Autumn collection.

The website description of this is:

Gentle hay pillows, pumpkin, ripe peaches dusted with clove and nutmeg, dried summer herbs, and lastly, a lovely crown of amber.

Unfortunately, this scent just isn't for me. It kind of smells like food. But not in a way that I would consider suitable for perfume.

I put this on and Lloyd referred to it as "Boyfriend Repellent." Which can't be a good thing.

I can imagine this might be nicer as a soap - where the scent isn't quite so concentrated, but as a perfume this is sort of horrible (sorry guys!)

And then comes the part when I was naughty......

I placed another order this morning.

Whilst I was away on tour I saw Britton post a round up of all of the Autumn collection scents, and there were two on there that I knew I had to try. I actually attempted to order them from my iPhone but couldn't get paypal to work properly.

Pixie Sorcerer
They look cute, but beware! Deceptive pomegranate candy floss, beneath that a spiteful blend of coffee co2, vetiver and myrrh. (Bubbling scrub, emulsifying scrub, pumpkin butter, perfume)
Ghost Puffs
Buttery popcorn and marshmallow goo orbs, presented on a wooden stick. (Perfume, pumpkin butter, whipped soap)

Pomegranate, candy floss, coffee!!! Popcorn and Marshmallow!!!! These are pretty much mixtures of all of my favourite things!
This time I ordered both of these scents as mini Pumpkin Butters (because Pixie Sorcerer wasn't available as a mini Bubbling Scrub and I figured I should try something new). They were $4.50 each (about £2.75) and I can't wait for them to get here!

Shipping to the UK varies depending on what you order. It was $3.46 (£2.10) for my first order (one mini bubbling scrub), $4.33 (£2.60) for my second order (one mini bubbling scrub and one perfume oil) and $6.07 (£3.66) for todays order (two mini pumpkin butters).

I would really recommend this company. I have loved nearly everything I have received from them (the only slight blip was Pumpkin Queen....which was free anyway so I don't mind :P).

All of the products I have mentioned in this review are available from www.hausofgloi.com

Oh glitter why do you photograph so badly?

I went out for a meal with some lovely ladies this evening.

I stood in front of my mirror with the full intention of putting on a bit of foundation and some mascara.....

.....and then I saw my pot of MAC Fuchsia Reflects Glitter.

I love how it turned out but unfortunately my camera hated it.

There are tonnes of pictures just to try and capture how sparkly it really was...none of them really show it properly though :(

Here is a photo after I did my hair (just to sort of prove that I didn't leave it like it was in the first set of photos!)

The glitter looks SO patchy here. I promise it wasn't IRL.

This look was sort of a mixture of Sugarpills Poison Plum, MAC's Reflects Fuchsia Glitter and Illamasqua's Static Pigment.

I made a video!

Freelance Stuff and Final Exam

I have been doing my first few bits of freelance work over the last month or so, and I am really pleased with how it has been going :)

I recently finished my music performance degree, which involved doing a 25 minute 'Final Performance' Exam. There are a lot of very lovely vocalists in my class who asked me to paint their faces for their own exams, and I was happy to oblige :)

The inspiration for her look came from Beyonce's video for 'Why Don't You Love Me?'

This one was difficult because I had never done a shape THIS precise before. I'm really happy with how it turned out though :) I'm a bit of a symmetry freak and I loved how even this looked on her on stage.)

I USED

EYES:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
E.L.F Gel Eye liner in Coffee (as a base and to draw the shape onto her eye.)
MAC Mystery (over the base)
MAC Vanilla (highlight)

Concealer from 12 Concealer palette

MAC Pink Cult Blush
Fyrinnae Finishing Powder

None of the girls had lipstick/gloss on or false eyelashes. I personally can't wear either of these things on stage (because the lipstick/gloss gets all over my face and my hair gets caught in the lashes :( booo) so I sort of warned against them if they weren't already comfortable with wearing them.

Oddly enough, I barely wore any make up for my own final performance. The room was about a million degrees when I did mine and I knew I would come off looking like I had been punched in both eyes if I tried anything clever. It was on my birthday and I wanted to go straight out afterwards so I played it safe with a simple cat eye :)

If anyone is interested....here is a video of my final performance exam:

If you like the video then you should definitely come and "like" our page on facebook too ;)

Sarah from Make-up Rehab has already asked me to do a FOTD for the eye look I was wearing towards the end of the video so I will definitely get on that once I have time to recreate it (rainbow eyes take a LONG time!)

FOTD: MY DISSERTATION HAS BEEN HANDED IN!!

Finally, I can actually have a life again!!

Me wearing my Sanrio dye cap and my PJ's :)

Since I last posted anything - I have changed the colour of my hair dye. Beforehand I was using Manic Panic - Atomic Turquoise on its own, but I have switched to mixing Atomic Turquoise with a bit of Directions - Flourescent Glow dye. It has made it a lovely bright turquoisey green rather than turquoisey blue (which it was before.) I am very happy with it :) I'm feeling ready for summer now!

We had a band photoshoot today and so I actually got to make my makeup look nice for the first time in about a month and a half. I considered it FOTD worthy so here is my face (and new hair :)).

I used:

EYES
UDPP
NYX - Milk (as a base)
Shiro - Still Breathing (inner lid & inner corner)
Shiro - 2 + 2 = 10 (outer lid)
Sugarpill - Midori (crease)
Sugarpill - Tako (highlight)
MAC - Undercurrent Pearlglide Liner (outer bottom lash line)
E.L.F Studio Gel Liner - Black (wings and waterline)
MUA - Black (over top of gel liner on wings)
MAC - Haute & Naughty Lash Mascara
Mr Mascara half eyelashes (spikey)
MAC - Mystery (eyebrows)

FACE

Illamasqua - Matt Primer
Benefit - It Stick (undereye concealer)
Lily Lolo - Warm Peach Foundation
Illamasqua - Katie Blush

LIPS

Body Shop - Watermelon balm.

I have SO much stuff to catch up on but I'm afraid its probably gonna have to wait a little bit longer as I am performing in 6 different degree exams over the next week and am doing makeup for a few of them too (which I am excited about :)).

I'm sorry I havn't been around in a while guys. I'm finishing up my dissertation and getting ready for touring over summer with my band Orestea (www.facebook.com/oresteaband).

I'll be back soon I promise you!

In other news I just mixed some of my Revlon Photoready Foundation (Vanilla) with my Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation (RF210) together because the revlon was too light and the illamasqua was too dark.....and it applied better than either foundation does on its own :) This has made me a happy lady!

I have so much to post about when my dissertation is finished!

Moving house.

My makeup just moved into a new house :)

My lipsticks weren't fitting in the old drawer, and the nail varnish & eyelash drawers were getting fairly overloaded too. So I went makeup-house hunting.

I found this lovely colourful set of drawers in hobbycraft for about £25 (they are 20% off at the moment though so if you hurry you can grab a bargain :D)

Sleek True Colour Lipstick: Peaches & Cream

Sorry I havn't been posting much recently - I have been away on tour for a few weeks. We still have two more shows left but I thought I'd pop a post up quickly to show you guys todays purchase :)

I went to superdrug initially to pick up just this lipstick - but they were on two for £5.99 so I grabbed another one too (Pink Freeze).

I was REALLY tempted by Amped, but after having a sift through my makeup bag and pulling out MAC's 'Candy Yum Yum' (from the Quite Cute collection) I discovered that they are exactly the same. They even swatch the same - I honestly couldn't tell the difference once it was on my hand. This is quite annoying as I recently forked out £13.50 for CYY :(

I have only had time to play with Peaches & Cream so far though, so Pink Freeze can have a seperate post later.

Peaches & Cream looks pretty scary in the tube. It is VERY orange looking. But once it is applied it is a lot more "peachy".

I look a bit vacant in this picture. Too much sun maybe?

EDIT: Also, please excuse the MAJOR hair fade. It sun bleaches really easilly and this lovely weather we have been having hasn't made my hair look pretty :(

I really like this colour. The true colour lipsticks are not scented (which I am happy about, because I'm not too into the scent of their balms. I was worried these would be the same.) They feel pretty moisturising too. Peaches & Cream is a sheen formula but the other one I picked up is a matte so it will be interesting to see how they compare :)

These are £3.99 from superdrug (or if you get there quickly, you might be able to pick up 2 for £5.99!)
